Advantages of Podcasting

Podcasting has gained tons of popularity over the past few years. So much, in fact, it has proved to be an essential marketing tool for entrepreneurs in 2017. How consumers are using their mobile devices is a huge factor in the success of podcasting. Some of my friends have recently either started one of their own or inquired about starting one together. If you too are thinking about starting a podcast of your own this year, I’ve listed four reasons below for why it might just be a great idea.

     1) Accessibility and Convenience – Podcasts are easily accessible across multiple platforms. Smartphones have enabled us to browse, listen, and subscribe to our favorites at the touch of a button. People often listen to podcasts while driving, exercising, showering, cooking, etc.

     2) Marketing Machine – Podcasts are the new wave. Mobilized version of talk radio. According to an article on fortune.com “85% of U.S. adults read the news on a mobile device.” Furthermore, techcrunch.com suggests that U.S. consumers spend around 5 hours per day on their cell phones. If you’re like me, chances are you listen to Podcasts throughout the day to catch up on current events, news (real or fake – whatever), and of course those damn guilty pleasures. Companies understand the effectiveness of digital marketing and are beginning to take advantage of Podcasting as a tool to build brand awareness and create conversion.

     3) Understanding the listeners - Salesforce.com says “Forty-eight percent of monthly podcast consumers follow companies/brands on social media, compared to just 31percent of the full U.S. population.” A great example of the power of Podcasting. Listeners, myself included, are more likely to engage with businesses that are accessible on social media. As long as the content is valuable in one way or another, the listeners will remain loyal and return to your social media sites AND subscribe to your channels.

     4) Free you say? – Podcasting is undoubtedly on fire right now. All you have to be willing to invest is a few minutes into searching for the best Podcast for your listening pleasure. With the exception of your cell phone providers data plan, most Podcasts are free for all to listen and subscribe to. Visit Google Play Music or iTunes and you’ll immediately have access a wide variety of Podcast stations. All for the price of free.99!

A few of the Podcasts I listen to daily are shown on the right sidebar. Feel free to click and enjoy! Do you have a favorite podcast channel? Leave a comment with your recommendations. Also (shameless plug coming...) my new Podcast for InureSocial will begin airing January 25th.
